Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Trattoria Antica · Italian cooking and Viennese classics, reservations, allergens, directions, opening hours, Schnitzel and pasta, private events.
How can I reserve a table?
Book online via the form on our contact page or call us on +43 1 399 0 477. We confirm every request personally.
Do you cater for vegetarian and vegan guests?
Yes. Our menu clearly marks all vegetarian and vegan dishes, and we are happy to adapt many classics to a vegetarian version — just ask our service team.
How is allergen information handled?
All 14 main allergens (per EU regulation 1169/2011) are flagged on the menu with letters (A–R). Our team is happy to advise on substitutions before you order.
Where are you located?
We are at Althanstraße 15, 1090 Wien, in Vienna's 9th district (Alsergrund). The U4 metro stop Friedensbrücke is 5 minutes on foot.
What are your opening hours?
Trattoria Antica is open Monday and Wednesday through Sunday, 11:00 – 23:00 — kitchen and bar run straight through the afternoon, no break. We are closed on Tuesdays. Public-holiday hours may differ; we display any seasonal changes in the footer and on the contact page. Lunch service is busiest between 11:30 and 14:30; for dinner from 18:00 onward — especially on weekends — we recommend reserving a table in advance.
Do you accept large group bookings?
Yes — up to 30 people. For groups of 15 or more we recommend calling +43 1 399 0 477 directly so we can plan seating for you.
Do you host private events?
We host weddings, birthday parties and corporate dinners. Email info@trattoria-antica.at with your date and guest count for a tailored quote.
Is there parking nearby?
Althanstraße is in a short-stay parking zone. Several public car parks are within a short walk, including near the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof.
Can I come without a reservation?
Walk-ins are welcome, especially at lunch. For evenings and weekends we strongly recommend reserving to guarantee a table.
Is your pasta made in-house?
Yes — our pasta is made fresh in the kitchen every morning from Italian "00" flour. Tagliatelle, pappardelle and ravioli are hand-rolled and filled on site. We use dried pasta only for classics like spaghetti from Gragnano.
Do you also serve Viennese dishes?
Yes — Italian and Viennese under one roof. Our menu features the classic Wiener Schnitzel from veal (shallow-fried in clarified butter), Tafelspitz from beef rump with apple-horseradish and chive sauce, Vienna-style goulash with potatoes, and a home-made Apfelstrudel with hand-pulled dough and vanilla sauce. We use Austrian veal and beef and grind our own fresh breadcrumbs. Pasta and Schnitzel at the same table is completely normal here.
Where do your ingredients and wines come from?
We import directly from Italy on a regular basis: "00" flour, San Marzano tomatoes from Campania, extra-virgin olive oil from Tuscany, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP. The wine list covers producers from Piedmont, Veneto, Tuscany, Apulia and Sicily — mostly small family-run estates.
Is your pizza wood-fired?
Yes. Every pizza is baked in a stone oven at around 400 °C; the dough rests for at least 48 hours, which gives the light, aromatic crust — Neapolitan-style, with subtle adjustments for the Viennese palate.
How close is the trattoria to WU Vienna and Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof?
Trattoria Antica (Althanstraße 15, 1090 Wien) is roughly a 10-minute walk from the WU campus buildings on Augasse and sits directly on the transit corridor to the main WU campus. The nearest metro stop is Friedensbrücke (U4), two stops from Schwedenplatz. Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof is 4 minutes on foot.
